Mercury UV lamps are the real heavy lifters in industrial curing. If you’re working with inks, coatings, or adhesives, these are the bulbs that do the hard work. They pump out high-intensity ultraviolet radiation to trigger a chemical reaction—basically forcing the resin to cross-link and harden instantly.
Getting the Power Right (and Not Burning Your Stuff)
When we pick a bulb, we’re looking at the irradiance—how much power actually hits your surface. Here’s the thing: more wattage means more photons, which means a faster cure. That sounds great, but you have to balance it with your conveyor speed. If you crank up a high-output bulb but your line is crawling, you’re going to scorch your materials or end up with “over-cure” shrinkage. It’s a delicate balance. And man, these things gethot. Whether you’re using air or water cooling, your system has to keep up. If that quartz envelope gets too hot, the mercury vapor pressure goes haywire and your UV output just tanks.
Why the Glass Matters
We don’t use regular glass. Why? Because regular glass blocks UV. We use high-purity fused quartz because it lets the light fly right through. We also obsess over the wall thickness. If it’s uneven, you get hot spots. And hot spots lead to cracks. Nobody wants a bulb shattering mid-shift. We also make sure the electrodes are exactly where they need to be so the arc stays stable. If the arc starts wandering, you get patchy curing and a bulb that dies way too early. Plus, we build these as simple drop-in replacements. You just pop them in. No need to spend your afternoon re-aligning the whole lamp head.
